Ugh... like The Joker said “and here we go”

So you want to lose weight huh? You want to lose weight quickly.

The most known diet people are driven to is keto diet because Karen spoke of success with weight loss in their short journey.

Cutting out entire food groups is not healthy and can cause significant nutrient deficiencies. (Hello thyroid problems. Hormone problems. Internal problems.)

Even if weight loss occurs during the keto diet, it doesn’t mean it is healthy or sustainable.

The initial weight loss is likely water weight.

When you rid the body of glucose, it will turn to breaking down glycogen for energy. If there is no glucose & it is being made from glycogen, the water is used up.

This process is responsible for that initial “weight change”

Water loss is not fat loss.

Carbohydrates are your body’s main and preferred fuel source. Carbs are most easily converted into energy.

Because your brain has no way of storing energy, it relies on a continuous supply of glucose for proper functioning.

Luckily there is a backup system. Ketones (or ketone bodies) are an alternative source of fuel, produced by the liver.

This metabolic process is called ketosis, occurring in the absence of glucose by turning to the breakdown of fat for energy.

Ketones are typically produced when your calories are only 5-10% carbohydrates, which is about 20-50g max daily for most people.

Why would you go through an extra step to make energy when the process to get there is so restrictive?

Carbs are not only found in wholegrains, seeds and legumes but are the primary macronutrient in fruits and vegetables too. Fruits & vegetables provide rich sources of fiber that are beneficial for a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut (fiber feeds the bacteria). Having a healthy gut boosts immunity, improves mental health and decreases inflammation, it also prevents constipation & other digestive discomfort.

This diet is completely unnecessary, unless of course, you have epilepsy. Which studies have shown it has been known to help.
