What did you do this morning?

What did you do this morning?

How is your morning routine affecting your daily life? Well let’s see.. did you stay in bed for an extra 10-15-30 minutes? Did you get all of your social media fix in? Did you read through all the junk email?

Did this not allow you to get any food ready for the day? Did this not allow you to eat breakfast, so now when you get to work you are either fasting until lunch?

That same lunch that you did not prepare and now you must eat out or you must eat at the cafeteria or dining hall? That same meal now is something you appear to be healthy?

You know… the “salad and grilled chicken meal” that you appear in your mind to be healthy but the second you start adding, cheese, ranch, French dressing, croutons, carrots, etc… You just added 500 or so extra calories and now that meal is as healthy as eating out and now you are struggling throughout the day because you ate more food than wanted and it was also processed

Did you make your bed this morning or did you look at the pillows and blanket and say “Eh someone else will take care of that” or “Why would I fix this if I am going to lay in it later”

Do you think this perceived notion moves into your work, especially when you work in a group?

Why would you make the effort to fix something if someone else could fix it right? I would think you would because this forces you to move towards a bigger goal. This is the same as fixing your bed in the morning, this allows you to have that extra 5-10 minutes when you get off work to do something else. This allows you to not move something like the dishes to the next day.

Do you see how this becomes a pattern? You know just as much as I do how hard it is to break a pattern and how hard it is to start a new pattern.

Look at the pattern of losing weight. There is a saying in the fitness world that goes, “It takes 4 weeks for you to see results, 8 weeks for your friends to see your results, and 12 weeks for everyone else to see them.”

So why would you start a new morning routine? The same reason you would start a new workout routine or diet routine. This little step could lead you to a new skill/hobby/more time with kids/the dogs/ going to the gym for 5-10 extra minutes

It doesn’t have to be a whole new you, but it does need to be a new routine. I know, we all have the rushed routine of getting to work. But instead of grabbing that phone and going through social media and reading through things that aren’t that important in the grand scheme of life… Why not start the coffee pot, through on a podcast, and start your morning with a 10 min walk to the end of the street?

This little addition to your life could improve your health, your mental health, your knowledge, your overall well-being, and if you take your kids or dog with you, I am sure they will love just getting out and spending that 5-10 minutes with you instead of you lying in bed dreading the day.

Hope you enjoyed
